The guild of Saint Olof's Axe was founded 2006 by Stefan Wramner, Rolf K Nilsson and Magnus Wahlund.

The objectives of the guild is to, under amicably forms, vivify the Viking and Medieval ages, and consequently make the public interested in history in general and Gotlandic history in particular.

Saint Olof is Gotland's patron saint. The Norwegian king, Olav (Olof in Swedish) landed on S:t Olofsholm on eastern Gotland 1029. He christened several important Gotlandic individuals. He also built Gotland's first Christian church at S:t Olofsholm.
